Credit Counseling
Credit counselors help determine payments or interest reductions offered to consumers in a debt management plan. The goal of a credit counselor is to ensure that all who seek help with their debt problems receive the highest quality of assistance.
Some credit counselors will provide you with a free budget analysis to help you determine if the debt management program is right for you. These credit counselors will also provide you with ongoing counseling and education throughout the life of your program and after you complete the program to make sure you are staying on track. Credit counseling typically involves negotiating with creditors to establish a debt management plan for the consumer. The goal is to mutually structure a repayment plan for the debt so that the consumer can manage the debt burden and the creditor (lender) increases the chance they'll get their money back.
Credit Counseling is a great place to begin if you have concerns about your credit situation. These debt management programs are typically individually designed to provide you with a unique solution for your financial situation. Professionally trained and independently certified counselors evaluate your financial situation, assist you in creating a budget, and work with creditors to negotiate a possible reduction in: finance charges, late fees and/or over-limit charges, monthly payments and pay-off time. These debt management programs can help you simplify your financial monthly commitments. They can help consolidate your payments into one simple monthly payment and disperse to your creditors on your behalf.
