Nearly every item that you purchase from a grocery store, department store and mass merchandiser has a UPC bar code on it somewhere. Every product at the supermarket has a UPC bar code.
If you don't have a UPC from the Uniform Code Council then link to them to apply for your number. The universal product code (UPC) is a 12-digit number and associated machine-readable bar code used to identify products being purchased in grocery stores. You can see that the UPC symbol printed on a package has two parts: The machine-readable bar code; And, the human-readable 12-digit UPC number.
