Plasma Cutters

Basically, a plasma cutter is a plasma arc cutting process which severs metal by using a constricted arc combined with high speed inert gas to melt a small area of the work. This process can cut all metals that conduct electricity.

Plasma cutters come in all shapes and sizes. There are enormous plasma cutters controlled by robots to make precise cuts. There are also compact, handheld units for less than a thousand dollars that you might find in a handyman's shop. Regardless of size, all plasma cutters function on the same principle and are constructed around roughly the same design.

Plasma cutters are designed to cut steel and other hard metals using a plasma torch. Plasma cutting is done by forcing an inert gas at high speed through a nozzle and then introducing a strong electrical current between the gas and the metal object being cut. The electrical current forms an arc that turns some of the gas to plasma. This plasma is quite hot and moving rapidly to melt the metal and blow away the melted metal resulting in a clean, fast cutting tool. Compare plasma cutters today.
