COBRA Insurance
Find out if COBRA insurance coverage is right for you or consider buying your own health insurance plan to see if you can save money over COBRA insurance.
Congress passed COBRA to provide continuation of group health coverage to employees and their immediate families under special circumstances that would otherwise prevent them from continuing their health insurance coverage. Nearly all group health plans maintained by employers for their employees are subject to COBRA's provisions, include group health plans of corporations, partnerships, tax exempt organizations, state and local governments.
Cobra Insurance was enacted to allow both workers and their immediate family members who had been covered by a health care plan to maintain their coverage if a qualifying event causes them to lose coverage. A COBRA health plan states that if you leave your job for any reason and were an active participant in the company's health plan prior to your departure date, you have the right, if you wish, to continue the health insurance coverage you and your family received, for 18 months. Cobra Insurance is a way to protect employees and their families until the time comes to find another health insurance plan.
